NEWS UPDATES FROM THE VINEYARD

Everyone is agreed that Spring has sprung, St Brigid announced that February 1st saw the glad day, Met Eireann, while disagreeing with the saint, is happy that the second season began on March 1st but whichever date you prefer Spring has sprung.

This is, of course, the time for SPRING CLEANING, so get into gear by purging those presses, clearing the closets, weeding the wardrobes and hunting through the hotpress for all the stuff you thought, three years ago, you’d wear again some day. Be honest, since you’ve lost that kilo those trousers are going to fall off you, so now’s your chance to do the clear-out and help your club at the same time;

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT re REGISTRATION

Roger Kear, Chair of the Cricket Committee has asked everyone to cooperate;

With the cricket season now only a few short weeks away it is imperative that all cricketers register with Cricket Leinster in order to be eligible to play in the leagues.

All adult male players should register for OPEN competitions.

All women who will play women’s cricket only should register for Women’s Cricket only.

All women cricketers who might also play in open competitions MUST register in both Women’s and open categories.

All male youth players (under 18) who might also play in adult teams MUST be registered for open and youth cricket (registration by parent)

All female youth players who might also play in women’s cricket MUST be registered for youth and women’s, by parent

All youth players (male and female) who will play only in youth competitions MUST be registered for Youth Cricket, again by parent.

PARENTS AND GUARDIANS PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGES HERE, IT IS NOW NECESSARY FOR YOU TO REGISTER YOUTH PLAYERS.

If there is anyone out there who might play Taverners Cricket you should register for Social Cricket.

A lot of work goes on behind the scenes regarding registration and it is vital that we get the right players in the correct categories, so please get onto the Cricket Leinster website and click “register”, then just follow your nose to the right category for you and register.

NEW CLUB CLOTHING

Your Executive Committee has been listening to your thoughts on playing gear and social wear;

“A quicker turnaround please. I don’t want to wait five or six weeks for a club polo shirt.” John in Skerries

“Where can I buy a Hills top today?” Peter in Balcunnin.

“How come it’s so hard to get a Hills cap?” Jean in Ardla.

“I’d love to get my husband a Hills T20 shirt for his birthday next week.” Mary in Balrothery.

Having heard and listened the exec have made the decision to change supplier; Stuart Surridge have been suppliers of cricket gear for more years than I care to remember, so with the cooperation of Ed Dwyer of Ed Sports, The Hills will now be adorned in Surridge clothing. This move will not only mean easier ordering and quicker supply, it will also offer better value for money.

Ed Sports will carry our new range in his shop, including caps jumpers, shirts, polos, training kit, half-zips, jackets, the newT20 gear and all you might need to be the best dressed cricketer or supporter in The Vineyard or any other ground, in any weather.

Some stock will be available for sale from the club bar and anything not immediately on hand can be ordered direct from Ed Sports’ website.

Over the next week or two the Club will be launching an online ordering page to offer members and friends an easy, inexpensive, and fast delivery option for our new garment range. All items will come with Club Crest and can be personalized if required.

Of course, the O’Neill’s gear is still perfectly acceptable, but the Club would love to see as many folk as possible using the new Surridge clothing.

A full catalogue of the new range, including the 50th anniversary polo, will be available early next week.
